Southern Headquarters of Russia’s Federal Agency for Special Construction (SpetsStroy of Russia) says its specialists have finished building the berthing facilities for RF Navy’s Northern Fleet.

The construction of berthing facilities for the vessels of RF Navy at the shore of the ice-free Barents Sea was started in Severomorsk in 2012. At the initial phase hydraulic engineers disassembled the existing berth which is out of use for natural reasons, as well as bottom examination and cleaning of numerous metal and concrete structures and wreckage.

The new berth has a foundation of bored and cast-in-place piles and a decking of reinforced concrete with the utility canals. Southern Headquarters of SpetsStroy are well familiar with construction of such structures – it is building a unique Warships Harbour in Novorossiysk. However, different climate and hydrological conditions complicated some technological processes so that engineers had to offer special solutions. The tasks of the first phase have been fulfilled. The new facility equipped with unique fenders of domestic production has been put into operation.

The work is going on under the next phases of construction. The facility will meet all the requirements for safe mooring and servicing of warships.
