Shipyard Pella (Leningrad Region) lays down yet another missile craft of Project 22800 for RF Navy (graphics)

On 24 December 2016, Pella Shipyard (Leningrad Region) laid down new generation missile craft of Project 22800 for RF Navy, says press center of RF Defence Ministry. 

According to the statement, keel-laying ceremony for the first two missile crafts of Project 22800 (named "Hurricane" and "Typhoon") was held a year ago.

By the order of Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy Vladimir Korolev the new ship was named “Burya”.

The ceremony was attended by Vice Admiral Andrei Volozhinsky, Chief of the Main Staff of RF Navy; Dmitry Tsymlyakov, deputy head of RF Navy’s Shipbuilding Department, Chief Engineer of the Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau; management and personnel of the shipyard.

Construction of new generation missile crafts of Project 22800 is a part of a state programme on building warships to renovate surface ships of Russian Navy.

Pella shipyard is already building three crafts of Project 22800, named the Uragan, the Typhoon and the Shkval. The 22800 series missile boat was designed by Almaz Central Marine Design Bureau.The vessels will have a displacement of about 800 tonnes, maximum speed of more than 30 knots and state-of-the-art high-precision missiles and artillery systems. The design incorporates the following features: high maneuverability, high seaworthiness and superstructure and hull stealth technology. The missile craft is able to perform tasks in the maritime zone 3,000 nm off the ship homeport.  

Leningrad Shipyard Pella was founded in 1950 and privatized in 1992. The holding incorporates a head company and a number of subsidiaries. The shipyard specializes in construction of tug boats for Russian customers.
