Throughput of port Ventspils (Latvia) down 16.5% to 18.8 mln t in 2016

In January-December 2016, the port of Ventspils handled 18.8 mln t of cargo (-16.5%, year-on-year), the port authority says.  In December the port handled 1.7 mln t of cargo.

Transshipment via Ventspils Nafta termināls totaled 7.5 (-22%), via Baltic Coal Terminal – 1.5 mln t (-18%), via Ventbunkers – down 30% to 2.1 mln t, via SIA Ventamonjaks – down 19% to 390,000 t, via  Ventspils tirdzniecības osta  - down 18% to 2.3 mln t, via Kālija parks – 380,000 t. Ventall Termināls handled 674,000 t of cargo (-46%), Ventspils Grain Terminal - 396,000 t of grain (-25%). Transshipment via Ventplac increased by 11% to 478,000 t, via Ventamonjaks Serviss – up 19% to 390,000 t.

Eurohome Latvija commenced operation in April 2016 and handled 311,000 t of cargo. Overseas Estates commenced operation in September 2016 and handled 17,000 t of palm oil.

Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2016, the port handled 22.5 mln t of cargo.
