In January-December 2016, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 37,070,300 t of cargo (-7.5%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment fell by 8.5% to 13,291,900 t, oil products – by 23.1% to 8,102,500 t, wood pellets – by 13.8% to 555,000 t. Transshipment of ore doubled to 406,400 t.
The Port’s container throughput grew by 8.6% to 385,937 TEUs.
Passenger turnover increased by 10.5% to 581,601 persons including 71,420 cruise passengers (+3.3%)..
Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2015, the port’s throughput totaled 40,055,800 t of cargo.
