In January-December 2016, Port of Gdansk (Poland) handled 37 mln t of cargo (+3.8%, year-on-year), the stevedoring company says.
Transshipment of grain fell by 21% to 1.1 mln t, general cargo and timber up 23% to 14.5 mln t, other bulk cargo (aggregates, sulphur, ore) – up 7.5% to 3.7 mln t, coal – up 13% to 5.08 mln t, liquid fuel – down 13% to 12.8 mln t.
The port of Gdansk is a major international transportation hub situated in the central part of the southern Baltic coast. Besides handling bulk cargoes (oil, coal, metal, ores) the port provides a number of line services linking it with the ports of the Baltic Sea and Western Europe (primarily ferry, construction and ro-ro lines). In 2015, the port handled 35.91 mln t of cargo.
