Diesel-electric submarine Komsomolsk-on-Amur of Project 877, Varshavyanka-class, has been delivered to the Pacific Fleet of RF Navy in Vladivostok, says press center of Khabarovsk Territory Government.
The ceremony was attended by employees of Amursky Shipyard and outfitting base, Khabarovsk Territory Governor Vyacheslav Shprot, Primorsky Territory Governor Vladimir Miklushevsky, Pacific Fleet Commander Sergey Avakyants, representatives of RF Defence Ministry and United Shipbuilding Corporation.
The submarine was built by Amursky Shipyard and lunched in 1991. In 2000-ies she underwent modernization at the shipyard and was named Komsomolsk-on-Amur in 2015. In 2016 the submarine successfully completed sea trials at the delivery base near Bolshoi Kamen in the Primorsky Territory.
Between 1980 and 1994 the shipyards of the country built 28 diesel-electric submarines of Project 877, Varshavyanka-class. The submarines feature advanced stealth technology, high maneuverability and steering characteristics, and ability to strike surface and underwater targets. Length – over 70 m, displacement – 3,198 t, power – over 4,000 h.p., crew – 52, speed – 18.6 knots, diving depth – up to 300 m, endurance – up to 45 days.
