In January 2017, the Port of Helsinki (Finland) handled 1.05 mln t of cargo (+22%, year-on-year), the port authority says.
Transshipment of import cargo climbed by 34.7% to 550,000 t, export cargo – by 10.5% to 495,500 t.
Throughput growth should be attributed to the increase of cargo handling at Vuosaari Harbour and the launch of new line from the Great Britain by Finnlines.
According to the statement, the port’s passenger throughput grew by 7%.
The Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland, the largest passenger port and the third largest in the Baltic Sea. The Port of Helsinki accounts for 77% of Finland's passenger traffic. In 2016, the port handled 11.64 mln t of cargo (+1.9%, year-on-year).
