Transneft – Kozmino Port LLC says the port’s berth No 2 has handled a 150,000 DWT tanker for the first time after reconstruction.
The Nordic Freedom moored at the berth on 5 February 2017 and was loaded with 140,000 t of ESPO oil. The tanker then left for the People's Republic of China.
According to the statement, tankers of such capacity can be handled at the berth No 2 of Transneft – Kozmino Port LLC due to reconstruction of the approach embankment including dredging in the water area performed in 2016.
Berth No 1 of Kozmino port was put into operation on 28 December 2009. In November 2012, with the commissioning of Berth No 2 and completion of dredging the port started simultaneous handling of two tankers: 80,000 DWT to 150,000 DWT tankers at Berth No 1, 80,000 DWT to 120,000 DWT tankers at Berth No 2. Having completed the reconstruction and dredging in 2016 the port is now able to accommodate vessels of up to 150,000 t in deadweight at both berths.
Transneft – Kozmino Port is part of Transneft and is the end point of Eastern Siberia-Pacific Ocean Pipeline System (ESPO PS). Kozmino Oil Port is meant for oil receiving through the pipeline and its transshipment to modern sea-craft.
