First phase of Arkhangelsk seaport’s deepwater area to be put into operation by 2025
The first phase of Arkhangelsk seaport’s deepwater area is to be put into operation by 2025. Press center of the Arkhangelsk Region Government says this was announced at the Russian Investment Forum “Sochi-2017”.
According to Arkhangelsk Region Governor Igor Orlov, a declaration for creation of this facility has been submitted to FSUE Rosmorport. The year of 2025 as the time frames has been discussed with potential investors.
Deepwater area of Arkhangelsk seaport is considered as a potential ‘anchor point’ of the NSR infrastructure. The project is included into the Transport Strategy of the Russian Federation till 2030.
The project on construction of a deepwater area at Arkhangelsk seaport is linked with the Belkomur project (White Sea - Komi - Ural) which involves the construction of the railway Arkhangelsk - Syktyvkar - Solikamsk (Perm).
The design depth of the access canal to the deepwater area is about 17 m (in the cargo area Economia – 9.2 m). This depth will let accommodate Panamax ships of 32 metres in breadth and 70,000 t in deadweight.
