On March 31, 2016, nuclear-powered multipurpose submarine of Yasen-M class, the Kazan, left the covered slipway of JSC PO Sevmash (Severodvinsk based shipyard of USC), says Sevmash .
The ceremonial launching of the lead submarine of the fourth generation was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin, RF Navy Commander Vladimir Korolev, USC President Aleksei Rakhmanov, representatives of the industry, the designing organization and the authorities as well as a delegation from Tatarstan.
According to the statement, the launching of the submarine marks the completion of the milestone phase in construction.
The submarine was laid down in 2009. The ship was designed by the St. Petersburg based Malakhit Central Design Bureau. Equipment and materials for nuclear-powered multipurpose submarines of the improved project Yasen-M are supplied by Russian manufacturers.
Manufacturer’s tests and state trials will be performed by the delivery team of Sevmash.
According to the Russian Navy’s new doctrine, an extended series of such submarines will form the core of Russia’s fleet of multi-purpose nuclear-powered submarines.
