Сore functions of London Protocol to participants at workshop in Accra, Ghana
IMO says the core functions of the treaty regulating dumping of wastes at sea - the London Protocol - have been presented to some 30 participants at a workshop in Accra, Ghana (22-24 May). The workshop provided relevant examples and experiences on the implementation of the Protocol. Participants from nine countries (Cabo Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea Bissau, Liberia, Nigeria, Sao Tome & Principe and Sierra Leone) also received information on various legal and technical aspects, including lessons on waste assessment guidance, the permitting and reporting procedures, as well as possible steps to ratification. The workshop was hosted by the Ghana Maritime Authority. IMO’s Fredrik Haag led the event, which is being followed by a regional workshop on the anti-fouling convention and biofouling guidelines.
