The Minister of Defence General of the Army Sergei Shoigu held a training session with the crew of the missile ship of the Caspian Flotilla Grad Sviyazhsk which used for the first time the latest cruise missiles Caliber in actual combat, striking at the infrastructure of the militants in Syria on October 2015, says press center of RF Defence Ministry.
On board Grad Sviyazhsk commander of the Russia Navy Admiral Vladimir Korolev reported to the Head of the Military Department that the Caspian Flotilla will be equipped with modern arms and military equipment by 76 per cent by 2020.
General of the Army Sergei Shoigu also heard reports from the commander of the Russian Navy Admiral Vladimir Korolev and the commander of the flotilla Rear Admiral Sergei Pinchuk about the progress of re-equipment of formation with modern samples of armament and military equipment and construction of military infrastructure.
The Minister of Defence checked the organization of combat training, arrangement of formations and military units of the flotilla, familiarized with the facilities of dock zone of the brigade of missile ships of protection of water area, checked combat duty.
In October 2015 Grad Sviyazhsk, and in November of the same year, naval strike group consisting of missile ships Dagestan, Grad Svijazhsk, Uglich and Velikiy Ustyug successfully struck with cruise missiles "Caliber-NK" on targets of militants in Syria.
