USC President believes it is realistic to build Leader icebreaker by 2025

The year of 2025 is a realistic deadline for construction of a 120-MW nuclear-powered icebreaker Leader of Project 10510, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Aleksei Rakhmanov, President of United Shipbuilding Corporation, as saying at the International Maritime Defence Show ’IMDS-2017’.

“The concept of the project is ready with the work on the detailed design underway. When the design is completed we will proceed with the agreements on the format of the ship financing, - said Aleksei Rakhmanov. – We just have to decide upon financing to embark on the construction within the terms defined by the Government”.

According to USC President, Leader icebreaker is necessary for the development of the Northern Sea Route.

“Leader icebreaker should immediately fall into the hands of experienced operators with a clear cargo base and proper scope of works,” emphasized Aleksei Rakhmanov.
