Yuri Gilts takes the helm at North-Western Shipping Company

Yuri Gilts has been appointed as Managing Director of North-Western Shipping Company (NWSC, part of UCL Holding) effective as of August 1, 2017, the shipping company said in a press release.

Mr. Gilts will replace Albert Vygovsky, who headed NWSC since 2011.

49-yo Yuri Gilts graduated from the St. Petersburg University of Economics and Finance. He has experience in managing large transport enterprises with a wide geographical coverage of operations.

Between 1995 and 2001 Mr. Gilts headed the department and was the director of financial department of Murmansk Shipping Company.

In 2001 - 2003 - First Deputy General Director of Northern Shipping Company.

Yuri Gilts held senior executive positions, including CEO in the FESCO Group.

He was also in charge of management of railway assets of Rail Garant Group and Rustranskom.

North-Western Shipping Company is the largest carrier in the Russian system of waterways, specializing on the export-import shipping of bulk, general and project cargoes, towages of oversized cargo and craft. The company provides a full range of transport services on the inland waterways of Russia and international sea traffic. NWSC is part of VBTH - a shipping division of the international transport group UCL Holding (a majority shareholder of VBTH) that consolidates several Russian shipping, railway, stevedore and logistics companies.

The company operates a fleet numbering of 57 cargo «sea» and «river-sea» vessels with the deadweight from 3,000 to 7,000 tons and 3 «Ro-Ro» «river-sea» barges. Total deadweight of fleet makes 278 thousand tons, average age of fleet is 16.5 years. The fleet of shipping company is the largest and one of the most modern fleet in Russia. Vessels of NWSC transport annually about 6 million tons of cargoes for a huge number of clients, among which largest metallurgical enterprises, timber industry concerns, producers of fertilizers, world leaders in the field of trade in grain and the oil and gas companies.
