A new boarding ramp designed as part of the ITER project opened in Fos-sur-Mer on 20 September, Marseille Fos said in its press release.
The structure in the Fos harbour allows loaded vehicles to embark directly without touching their contents. The RO-RO (roll-on / roll-off) ramp is able to support 880-tonne convoys carrying 600-tonne loads. It can operate by both docking and stranding thanks to the use of removable metal inserts.
The Cadarache CEA will have priority use for the ITER project. However, the public dock may be used for other heavy loading and unloading operations, one of the main areas of diversification for the Port. Project management was carried out entirely by the Port of Marseille Fos teams in collaboration with the various funding bodies: CEA, Sosersid, CFT and Daher. This project required eight months of work and an investment of 2.7 million euros.
