Throughput of port Riga (Latvia) down 5.1% to 25.49 mln t in 9M’17

In January-September 2017, the Freeport of Riga (Latvia) handled 25,490,700 t of cargo (-5.1%, year-on-year). As IAA PortNews was informed by the port authority, coal transshipment climbed by 2.5% to 9,331,400 t, oil products – down 33.4% to 4,320,600, wood pellets – up 13.5% to 474,100 t, ore – up 31.1% to 365,200 t. 

The Port’s container throughput grew by 17% to 323,899 TEUs.   

Passenger turnover increased by 47.5% to 659,272 including 83,487 cruise passengers (+21.4%).  

Freeport of Riga lies on both banks of the River Daugava covering 6.3 hectares. The port’s berth length is 13,800 meters, maximum draft at the berths is 12.2 meters. Up to 80% of the Freeport of Riga cargo turnover is made up of transit cargoes forwarded to or received from the CIS countries. In 2016, the port’s throughput totaled 37,070,300 t of cargo.
