Six vessels for off-harbour coal transshipment at the port of Shakhtersk have been built to the order of East Mining Company which controls Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk LLC, says the company’s press center.

According to Yury Gvozdikov, Executive Director of Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk, the 650 DWT vessels were designed to meet local conditions of work.

“This deadweight is very useful since every port has its own restrictions in terms of length, draught and capacity. … 650DWT ships can make 5–6 voyages per day on the average,” explained Yury Gvozdikov.

Vessels named Reid-1 and Reid-3 have arrived in the port of Shakhtersk and started off-harbor transshipment of coal. In the nearest time the port will welcome Reid-2 and Reid-4 ships with the outfitting of two more vessels nearing completion.

Yury Gvozdikov added that the port will soon handle dry cargo carriers Nikolai Chudotvorets and Svyataya Varvara, 4,300 DWT each.

“They have already been acquired but not used as intended yet: paper work on placing them under the flag of Russia will take some time,” said the Executive Director of CSPS.

Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk LLC is the major coal terminal in the region. The company operates specialized reloading machines and 2,000 t/h vessel-loading machine. The Company’s port fleet consists of 1,700 DWT and 3,500 DWT dry-cargo vessels and tugboats. The port offers off-harbour loading of dry bulk carriers with deadweight of up to 60,000 t. The terminal handles coal from the Solntsevskiy coal deposit and from the Udarnovskaya coalmine.

East Mining Company Ltd. is the major coal producer in Sakhalin region coordinating the activities of Solntsevskiy Coal Mine LLC and Coal Sea Port of Shakhtersk LLC.
