Scandlines Helsingborg-Helsingör expands capacity

On 1 December, Scandlines Helsingborg-Helsingör expands capacity when Hamlet’s sailing schedule is expanded by five hours daily. The expansion is driven by increasing demand from the route’s freight customers and implemented following a long period of significant growth in freight traffic.

The route’s competitive prices and high regularity form the foundation for Scandlines Helsingborg-Helsingör transporting 410,000 trucks in 2016. The capacity expansion lets the route accommodate customers’ demand and increase the number of transported trucks by 40,000 units per year.

“Over a longer period of time, we have seen growth in freight traffic, and over the course of the most recent eight weeks the growth rate has exceeded 8%. Our freight customers are satisfied with Öresund’s floating bridge, and the expansion is part of our ongoing work to maintain the necessary capacity and the right service level. We want to offer on time departures at all times,” said Johan Röstin, CEO of HH Ferries AB.

Hamlet has already been on an expanded sailing schedule in connection with Aurora’s docking related to the ferry’s conversion to 100% battery operation. During that period, regularity has been high, and Hamlet’s restaurant has proven a great success. At the same time, the route’s newly expanded app has been popular with customers, reaching more than 40,000 downloads.

”Developments have been very positive recently, and we are now looking forward to expand capacity and continue the progress in the coming period to accommodate demand from both professional and retail customers. The capacity expansion furthermore entails hiring of additional staff,” said Johan Röstin.
