PIL takes delivery of two 11,800 TEU container vessels

Pacific International Lines (PIL) Group, Singapore’s leading containership operator, takes delivery of two new 11,800 TEU container ships on October 26, 2017, the company said in its press release.

The two vessels are among the fleet of 12 11,8000 TEU ordered by PIL and have been christened “Kota Pahlawan” and “Kota Panjang”, at a naming ceremony held in China.

Both have successfully completed their sea trials and set off for Singapore on 30 Oct and 1 November respectively. These two vessels will be deployed on the Far East - US AC5 service from the beginning of November 2017.

Built by Yangzijiang Shipbuilding (Holdings) Ltd. (“YZJ Group”) at its Suzhou shipyard, the vessels have been designed with safety and crew’s comfort in mind.

There is an improved field of vision from the bridge and the crew living quarters have been laid out in such a configuration that the living area is away from the engine room, reducing engine noise to the crew quarters.

The vessels are each fitted with 1,400 reefer plugs that can accommodate up to a maximum of 2,800 TEU of refrigerated containers onboard. They also feature an energy efficient design with an Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) well below the required reference level.

This has been a successful collaboration between PIL and YZJ Group.
