Assembling of all support structures for motor vehicle part completed at Crimea Bridge construction site (photo)

Bridge-building specialists have completed assembling all support structures of the Kerch Strait bridge’s motor vehicle part. 85 of 288 support structures are located in the water area. According to the Crimean Bridge information center, the next phase is to complete the assembling of spans which will result in a ‘thread’ of metal structures linking all sections of the Crimea Bridge.

The spans of the motor vehicle part have been assembled to 95%, says Roman Novikov, head of FSI Uprdor “Taman”.  According to him, the work is to be completed in the nearest weeks.

The highway section foundation consists of more than 3,000 piles including over 2,500 steel pipe piles (with total length of 160 km). Average embedment depth is 50 m, maximum - 88 m. Steel pipe piles have the diameter of 1,420 mm and wall thickness of up to 40 mm. 

Leonid Ryzhenkin, Deputy General Director, Infrastructure Projects, Stroygazmontazh LLC, said: “We have made the most of the summer and autumn season … The construction site is fully prepared for winter operations, we are continuing our work on support structures and spans for the railway section…”.

Four-lane highway of the Crimea Bridge is to be open for traffic in December 2018, railway section of the bridge will become operational in 2019.
