Severnaya Verf and Metrostroy sign contract for construction of new shipbuilding facilities (photo, graphics)

Severnaya Verf (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) and Metrostroy OJSC have signed a contract for construction of a slipway and a covered slip in the framework of Phase 1 of the New Shipbuilding Facility project. According to the shipyard’s press release, the new facility will let Severnaya Verf build large capacity ships.

Under the contract, Metrostroy will build a slipway ground with a covered double-slip dock (250m х 140m х 75 m). The dock will be equipped with bridge cranes of 350 t in capacity and state-of-the-art transfer equipment. The works are to be completed in QI’2019.

Igor Ponomarev, Director General of Severnaya Verf shipyard says the works are financed by United Shipbuilding Corporation and the Federal Targeted Programme.

“The new facility will let build large capacity warships and civil vessels weighing up to 25,000 t and assembled of pre-fabricated large-blocks. That will expand the range of shipyard’s products with new generation frigates, landing crafts, gas carriers and oil tankers”, said Igor Ponomarev. 
    
According to Nikolay Aleksandrov, Director General of Metrostry, the company has already started working at the construction site.

The company was founded on November 14, 1912, as "Putilovskaya Shipyard." Since that time the shipyard has built more than 600 warships and commercial vessels including missile cruisers, antiaircraft ships, antisubmarine ships, destroyers, passenger ships, bulk carriers, container carriers, Ro-Ro ships, tugboats, support ships, ferries and floating docks. The shipyard’s backlog of orders currently includes the series of frigates, corvettes and other vessels.
