Ten years ago, on 1 April 2008, HHLA subsidiary Container-Transport-Dienst (CTD) opened a branch in Berlin. Since then the number of steel containers transported from Berlin with CTD trucks has risen from an original figure of around 5,000 standard containers (TEU) to 24,000 TEU, the company said in its press release.
CTD Managing Director Ralph Frankenstein never expected to see such an increase. “In 2008, the year of the financial crash, our expansion into Berlin was a very bold move. But we have never regretted taking this step, and after ten years the site is instrumental in the success of our growth strategy. I would like to thank our team for their highly motivated work and our customers for the trust they put in us,” he said.
CTD specialises in trans-shipment services between the Hamburg terminals and truck visits within Germany. In 2017, a total of 340,000 TEU was transported, 71 percent of which within the Port of Hamburg. CTD has another branch in Kornwestheim near Stuttgart.
