In January-March 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 4.913 million tonnes of cargo (-31%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.
Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 25% to 2.905 million tonnes including 1.332 million tonnes of dry bulk cargo (-50%) and 676,000 tonnes of general cargo (+13%).
The port’s container throughput totaled 1,200 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 8% to 43,897. The number of calls fell by 2% to 385.
Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2016, the port handled 18.8 mln t of cargo.
