New yard for empty railcars departure at Nakhodka-Vostochny station opened to traffic by RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov (photo)

The railway yard for empty railcars departure at Nakhodka-Vostochny station (Russian Railways’ Far Eastern branch) was opened to traffic by RF Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov, IAA PortNews correspondent reports from Nakhodka. The new facility built in the framework of Vostochny Port’s Phase 3 project will be transferred into the ownership of Russian Railways.

The new railway infrastructure facility is intended for distribution of cargo bound for both Phase 3 and the existing coal terminal of Vostochny Port JSC as well as for other port terminals in the Bay of Vrangel.

The ceremony was also attended by Victor Olersky, Deputy Minister of Transport – head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency; Andrey Tarasenko, Acting Governor of the Primorsky Territory; Nadezhda Zhikhareva, deputy head of Federal Marine and River Transport Agency; Sergey Khramagin, Director General of STLC; Igor Filatov, acting head of Russian Railways’ Far Eastern branch; Andrey Drevgal, head of Administration of Seaports of Primorsky Territory and Eastern Arctic.

When speaking at the ceremony Maxim Sokolov emphasized the significance of this project. 

“Today, we are opening the key element for further development of our largest dedicated coal port, Vostochny. Development of port infrastructure, implementation of our transport system’s export potential will let face the tasks set by the President in his address to the Federal Assembly. Expansion of the coal port’s capacity fully complies with those tasks. That is an innovative project, and the port meets the highest environmental standards. It is also one of the elements in the project on expansion of BAM and Transsib capacity. The new yard will let increase transshipment via the existing terminal and provide for operation of the coal terminal’s Phase 3 with the total capacity increasing to 40 million tonnes. … The new terminal will let generate 500 jobs”, he said.

The yard for dispatch of empty railcars has been expanded, the number of tracks was increased to 13, the capacity almost doubled. 8 existing tracks were supplemented with 5 new ones with total capacity of 355 railcars and useful length of 5,200 meters. Centralized security system and pneumatic tube system has been installed for a faster exchange of documents.
