Russia and Japan ink MoC on mutual recognition of seafarers’ diplomas (photo)

Russia and Japan have signed a Memorandum on Cooperation between the transport ministries of the two countries in mutual recognition of seafarers’ diplomas the work on which lasted for more than 10 years, says the Federal Marine and River Transport Agency of the Russian Federation (Rosmorrechflot).

The document was signed in Tokyo on 16 April 2018 at the 5th meeting of Russia-Japan working group on transport. The Russian party was headed by Victor Olersky, Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation – head of Rosmorrechflot; the Japanese – by Hiroshi Narahira, Vice-Minister for International Affairs, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan.

The delegations also discussed a possibility for Japanese sail training ships to take part in the Far East Tall Ships Regatta in 2018, cooperation in the development of railway transport and port infrastructure in the Far East region, etc.

Special attention was paid to the development of cargo transportation between Russia and Japan by Transsib railway and to cooperation in implementation of railway infrastructure projects.

The previous meeting of the working group was held in Moscow in August 2017.
