Oceanographic research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky arrives at port of Messina (Sicily)
The oceanographic research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky has arrived at the port of Messina, Sicily (Italy), says press center of RF Defence Ministry. The Russian ship’s crew will take part in commemorative events marking the 110th Anniversary of the feat by the Russian Navy’s ship squadron commanded by Admiral V.I. Litvinov when helping residents of the city destroyed by the 1908 earthquake.
The visit of the Russian ship to the port will last till May 26.
On the first day of the visit, an official delegation of the Russian oceanographic research vessel and representatives of the Baltic Fleet will pay protocol visits to the Chief of Coastal Guard, the prefect and mayor of the city, and head of administration in Port of Messina.
In accordance with the programme, the Russian delegation will visit the naval base of the Italian Navy and Fort San Salvatore. Moreover, the ship's captain will receive guests on the oceanographic research vessel Admiral Vladimirsky. During the ship’s stay in Messina, Sergey Razov, the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in the Italian Republic, and Nello Musumeci, the Governor of Sicily Island, will visit the ship.
Besides, the crew will tour the cities of Messina and Taormina, the Cathedral of the Virgin Mary and the regional museum. The Russian seamen will also visit Mount Etna.
In the port of Messina, the vessel will replenish its reserves.
