Throughput of port Ventspils (Latvia) in 6M’18 down 19% to 9.99 million tonnes

In January-June 2017, the port of Ventspils handled 9.999 million tonnes of cargo (-19%, year-on-year), the port authority told IAA PortNews.

Transshipment of liquid bulk cargo fell by 13% to 5.726 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – down 36% to 2.913 million tonnes, general cargo – up 9% to 1.360 million tonnes.

The port’s container throughput totaled 2,108 TEUs (no containers were handled in the same period of the previous year). Turnover of passengers grew by 8% to 99,149. The number of calls was flat year-on-year at 770 units.

Ventspils port is located near Venta river. There are terminals for loading and unloading of crude and oil products, liquid chemicals and fertilizers, metal and coal, timber and fish, containers and Ro-Ro trailers. In 2017, the port handled 20 million tonnes of cargo.
