Cargo throughput at the Port of Helsinki in the January-July period of 2018 increased by 10% compared to the corresponding period a year earlier and totaled 8.88 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics show.
Bulk cargo volume leaped by 44% to 1,586,900 tons, container traffic rose 8% to 298.680 TEUs. Equipment transported through the port terminals also increased by 5.6% to 354,970 units.
However, passenger traffic fell 2.1% to 6.79 million people and ship calls decreased by 7.3% to 4,680 units.
The Port of Helsinki is one of the largest ports in Finland, the largest passenger port and the third largest in the Baltic Sea. The Port of Helsinki accounts for 77% of Finland's passenger traffic. In 2017, the port handled 14.27 mln t of cargo (+14.2%, year-on-year).
