Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard launches Pola Feodosia, forth of RSD59 dry cargo vessel series
Nizhny Novgorod, Russia based Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard (part of United Shipbuilding Corporation) on August 17, hosted a ceremonial launching of fourth in a five dry cargo ships series of Project RSD59. The ship named Pola Feodosia is being built for Pola Rise company, the shipbuilding firm said on Friday in a press release.
Gleb Nikitin, the head of the Nizhny Novgorod region, in his speech at the launching ceremony highlighted the shipyard’s sizable contribution to the regional industry, told about participation of the shipbuilding company in regional programs to boost labour productivity and introduce new technologies.
"The Nizhny Novgorod regional government defends the interests of Krasnoye Sormovo and other Nizhny Novgorod based enterprises, seeking new orders in our region," Mr. Nikitin said adding the region looks into creation of a SEZ in the Nizhny Novgorod.
Ship’s godmother was the regional governor’s spouse Ekaterina Nikitina.
In December 2016, Krasnoye Sormovo Shipyard signed a three-party agreement with the State Transport Leasing Company (STLC) and the shipping company Pola Rise for the construction and delivery of five RSD 59 dry cargo vessels in 2018. Keel laying for all five ships took place in autumn 2017.
To date, the three RSD59 vessels - Pola Makaria, Pola Sofia and Pola Filofeya have been delivered to the Customer and are being operated on inland waterways. The forth vessel will be delivered upon completion of mooring and sea trials. Construction of the fifth in the dry cargo ship series nears completion.
The vessel is designed for transportation of general, containerized cargo, timber, grain, oversize cargo and dangerous goods B Class in R2 navigation area with waves up to 3% and standing off a place of shelter within 100 miles (distance between shelters should not exceed 200 miles), inland waterways of Russia (with some restrictions).

Project RSD59 designer is Marine Engineering Bureau – Design SPb. Working design document was developed by Volga-Caspian Design Bureau.
Krasnoye Sormovo PJSC is one of the oldest shipbuilding companies in Russia, founded in 1849.
