The service life of nuclear-powered icebreaker Vaigach that has already been doubled can be extended again to 2025-2027, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Mustafa Kashka, Acting General Director of Atomflot, as saying at the XI Regional Public Forum-Dialogue “Cooperation for Sustainable Development of the Arctic” (Murmansk).
Initially, the service life of the icebreaker’s nuclear power plant was set at 100,000 hours.
In 2017, specialists of Rosatomflot and Afrikantov Experimental Design Bureau completed their joint work to extend service life of nuclear power plants of Vaygach and Taimyr icebreakers to 200,000 hours. That let the company ensure fulfillment of its contract obligations.
