Vladimir Putin signed Executive Order On Early Termination of Mandate of the Governor of St Petersburg.
Following the request by Governor of St Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko on the early termination of his mandate, the President resolved to accept his resignation and appointed Alexander Beglov Acting Governor of St Petersburg until an elected governor takes office, relieving him of his post.
The Order comes into effect from the day of its signing.
Georgy Poltavchenko was appointed Governor of St Petersburg in 2011. In 2014 he took part in early gubernatorial elections and was supported by 79.3% of voters. His powers as the Governor were to expire in 2019.
