Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd. today announced its decision to equip 80 of its operated bulkcarriers with a new service called NAPA Fleet Intelligence with Noon Report (NAPA FI) developed by NAPA Ltd. , a software company that designs vessels and develops operational support systems.
NAPA FI does not require installation of an operational data collection device onboard. Instead, it relies on information gained from vessel logs and the Automatic Identification System (AIS), and analyzes propulsion performance using NAPA's engineering knowledge and data analysis. The system verifies the effects of measures to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from MOL-operated vessels, such as more effective engine output control, timely measures for hull and propellers maintenance to prevent reduction of propulsion.
MOL is stepping up its data-driven initiatives through the "FOCUS" project. In addition, NAPA FI can be easily adopted on vessels, and is expected to optimize propulsion performance and reduce the environmental impact even for vessels on short-term charter contracts. MOL aims to combine the knowledge gained through these initiatives and generate a synergistic effect.
MOL takes a proactive stance in collaborating with companies and research institutes, transcending conventional business categories with the aim of becoming customers' first choice when it comes to selecting a logistics partner, through efforts to reduce its environmental impact and improve services by using and applying ICT technology.
