Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard laid down two self-propelled freight/passenger barges for Kamchatka
On 31 October 2018, Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard PJSC held a ceremonial keel-laying of two self-propelled freight/passenger barges ordered by the Kamchatka Ministry of Transport. According to NSRY, the vessels are to be launched in 2019.
Boris Gladkikh, head of the Nakhodka Municipality, says this event is very important for the shipyard and the city especially taking into consideration hard times the company has experienced recently.
Nikolay Bolgar, Director of Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard, reminded the ceremony participants that NSRY had built many different vessels throughout its history though the company does not have the word ‘shipyard’ in its name.
According to Vladimir Kayumov, Kamchatka Minister of Transport, the region counts on these vessels as the only transport able to deliver cargo and passengers to remote areas. Construction of those barges is a pilot project. Their operation experience will let take a decision on the project expansion. This line of self-propelled barges can be upgraded taking into consideration climate conditions in Kamchatka.
Nakhodka Ship Repair Yard was established in 1951 and incorporated in 1992. In 1999 NSRY obtained ISO 9002:1994 certificate. Then the company participated in large infrastructure projects in the Primorsky Territory.
