Central Design Bureau “Iceberg” to develop documentation for construction of Leader icebreaker

PAO Central Design Bureau “Iceberg” has won a competition for implementation of R&D project “Development of approval documentation for construction of a Leader icebreaker of Project 10510” with a contract price of RUB 380 million. According to the competition materials, another bidder was AO Central Design Bureau “Lazurit”. The works under the contract to be implemented in three phases with the first one to be completed by 20 December 2018, the second one – by 31 July 2019, the third one – by 29 November 2019.

Icebreaker of project 10510, Leader, is intended for escorting large single ships and convoys of ships as well as for round-the-year maintenance of a navigation canal in ice-covered waters of the Arctic.

Key characteristics of the icebreaker: length - 209 m; width – 47.7 m; displacement (full) – 69,000 tonnes; power – up to 120 MW.

The ship is to break through fast field ice of up to 2 meters thick with a speed of 12 knots and fast field ice of 4 meters thick with a speed of 2 knots. The design is being developed by Krylov State Research Centre and domestic design bureaus.
