Deputy Governor of Murmansk Region spoke at Offshore Marintec Russia

The 3rd international exhibition and conference on shipbuilding and infrastructure development, OFFSHORE MARINTEC RUSSIA, opened in Saint-Petersburg. Olga Kuznetsova, Deputy Governor of the Murmansk Region, took part in the event, says Media Relations Department of the Murmansk Region Government.

The official emphasized that the project of Murmansk tranprotation hub implementation is necessary and essential for fulfillment of the tasks on development of Russia’s Arctic zone including the expansion of resource fields development opportunities on the Arctic shelf. It will also let use the maximum of the transit and resource potential of the Murmansk Region and the adjacent maritime territories.

“A well developed system of state support measures is in operation in the territory of the Murmansk Region while the creation of a favorable investment environment is among the key priorities of the regional government”, said Olga Kuznetsova.

The Murmansk Region has a special strategic status for Russia. Geographical location defined the Kola Peninsula as a priority element in ensuring the geopolitical interests of Russia in the north of Europe and the Arctic. Its non-freezing deep-water the Kola Bay became the main base of the Northern Fleet, and Murmansk sea port became the center of industrial fishing in the Barents Sea and the North Atlantic, and the starting point of the Arctic.

Today, Murmansk is the only port in European Russia with an open access to major oceanic routes. Port of Murmansk has direct access to the Northern Sea Route, that links the Atlantic to the Pacific through the arctic waters and provides access to natural resources of the Far North, Siberia and the Far East.  

According to the Order of the Government of the Russian Federation the OMR 2018 International Offshore and Maritime Exhibition and Conference was held in St. Petersburg on October 2 - 5. Leading players on the Shipbuilding and Fuel and Energy Complex markets, authorities and scientists gathered at one site to discuss the most important aspects of the Arctic Development.
