Stevedoring division of UCL Holding handled 37 million tonnes of cargo in 2018, flat YoY

In 2018, companies of UCL Port, stevedoring division of UCL Holding, handled 37 million tonnes of cargo, which is similar to the result shown in the previous year.

According to the company’s press release, total handling of dry cargo grew by 2.7% to 31.5 million tonnes. Transshipment of oil cargo fell by 15.5% to 5.5 million tonnes.

Exports accounted for 85% of the total throughput, imports raised to 14% with short-sea traffic remaining flat at 1%.

In the reporting period, the highest growth was achieved in the segment of containers — 12.6% to 757,000 TEUs. Container terminal Saint-Petersburg retained its leadership among Russian container operators having increased container turnover in 2018 by 12% to 722,000 TEUs.

Considerable growth was also demonstrated by Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg – in the reporting period, it handled 7.7 million tonnes of cargo (+12%, year-on-year).

Transshipment of dry bulk cargo fell by 4.9% to 12.3 million tonnes.

UCL Holding attributes the decrease to shipment restrictions introduced throughout the year on the southern direction. Yet, some companies of the division demonstrate positive dynamics. Sea Port of Saint-Petersburg increased handling of dry bulk cargo 2,6 times to 597,000 tonnes due to the growth of ore transshipment.

Handling of general cargo grew by 8.5% to 9.9 million tonnes. Tuapse Sea Commercial Port achieved a record-high result of 2.94 million tonnes, up 18%.

The decrease in total transshipment of oil cargo should be attributed to reduced transshipment via Tuapse and Taganrog.

Universal Cargo Logistics Holding (UCL Holding) is the international transportation group established in 2007. The Group consolidates Freight One, an independent railway operator of a rail network throughout Russia, Russia’s North-West based stevedore companies Sea Port of St. Petersburg (SP St.Pb), Container Terminal St. Petersburg (CTSP) and Multipurpose Reloading Complex LLC (MRC), Tuapse and Taganrog sea ports located in the country’s southern region. Volga Shipping, North-Western Shipping companies, VF.Tanker and Okskaya Sudoverf Shipyard are also members of UCL Holding.
