NOVATEK to launch medium-scale LNG plant in Vysotsk by April 2019

NOVATEK will launch a medium-scale LNG plant in Vysotsk (Leningrad Region) with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes by April 2019, Kremlin cites NOVATEK CEO Leonid Mikhelson as briefing Vladimir Putin on the company’s current activities and development plans.

“In a month, we will be launching a medium-scale LNG plant in Vysotsk with a capacity of 600,000 tonnes, and mostly for bunkering purposes”, said Leonid Mikhelson.

“The first line will be 600,000 tonnes, and next year we will probably decide on two more lines for another 1.2 million tonnes. Bunkering services are gaining momentum in the Baltic, so I think that there will be demand for these services”, added NOVATEK CEO.

The project on construction of a terminal for production, storage and shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) at the port of Vysotsk of the Leningrad Region is the largest one in the North-Western Region of Russia. The facility will be able to produce 660,000 tonnes of LNG per year will be among the three largest plants in Europe. Finland and Baltic states will be the key sales markets. Apart from LNG transshipment, the terminal will also let arrange bunkering of LNG-powered vessels. The project also includes construction of an offshoot pipeline from the main gas pipeline via Vyborg to the border (Leningrad-Vyborg-Gosgranitsa).
