Port of Azov two-month volume drops 8% to 1,170,000 tonnes

Terminal operators at the sea Port of Azov in January - February 2019 handled 1,170,000 tonnes of various types of cargoes, which is 8% lower of the volume handled in the corresponding period of 2018.

According to the summary statistics of stevedoring companies, the Port of Azov own throughput for the two-month period decreased by 7% to 1,161,000 tonnes.

Imports increased by 15% to 38,000 tonnes, while the volume of exports fell 7% to 770,000 tonnes, of coastal trade – by 10% to 353,000 tonnes, of transit cargo – by 47% to 9,300 tonnes.

The two-month volume included primarily grain, coal and petroleum products. Handling of coal increased by 40% to 319,000 tonnes, of grain – dropped by 15% to 732,000 tonnes, of oil products – by 46% to 74,000 tonnes.

The Azov port harbourmaster office registered 322 arrivals and 330 departures in Jan-Feb (346/361 in 2018).

Port of Azov is situated on the banks of the Don river. It is the main gateway between the Mediterranean Sea with the inland waterways of Russia and the Caspian Sea, for freight flows to the central part of Russia, the Urals and Central Asia. The boundaries of the port's basin include the River Don from the 3151.0-km stretch, the Koysug River to the receiving Light Buoy No 1 of Azov-Don Sea Canal, including outer anchorage No. 6 and the Calancha bayou to Dugino stop-over point.
