Local MP visits Port of Troon to learn more about how it supports the economy

Scottish MP for Central Ayrshire, Dr Philippa Whitford, has visited the Port of Troon to find out more about port operations and future business development opportunities, ABP says in a press release.

During her visit, she enjoyed a port tour given by ABP Scotland Port Manager, Stuart Cresswell, who was able to show her all the latest investments in port infrastructure and equipment made by ABP.

Highlights included a demonstration of recently upgraded fender units at the port, representing an £600,000 investment, which will help improve its ability to accommodate larger vessels in all weather conditions.

She was able to see first-hand the potential for marine-related developments at East Pier, as well as discuss future opportunities to help the port and its local community flourish.
Speaking after the visit, Stuart Cresswell, said: “We are lucky to have local MPs who are proactive and supportive of the efforts ABP is making at both our Scottish Ports of Troon and Ayr. It’s vitally important that everyone in the local area is pulling in the same direction to make the region prosper.”

Commenting on her visit, Dr Whitford, said: “As a resident of Troon, I have been aware of the development of Troon Harbour over the years and I am grateful to Stuart for taking the time to show me around the Port and discuss current and future developments.

“When the Ailsa Shipyard closed, there were concerns over the future of the harbour but it is in great shape with the Timber and Saw Mill, the Marina and the many smaller businesses.”
