Severnaya Verf shipyard (Saint-Petersburg) says it has laid down the third longline factory vessel of Project МТ 1112XL, Gandvik-3, for Fishing Company “Virma” (Group of Companies “Fishing Fleet of Karelia”). According to the shipyard, the vessel is to be delivered to the customer in QI of 2021.
Just like Gandvik-1 and Gandvik-2, Gandvik-3 will be deployed for catching codfish and haddock in norther parts of the Atlantic Ocean, Barents Sea and Norwegian Sea.
The first two ships in the series are to be launched in QIV of 2019 and QI of 2020 accordingly.
Igor Ponomarev, General Director of Severnaya Verf, emphasized that lead ship construction takes most time and efforts due to elaboration of construction technologies, inevitable adjustment of documentation and terms of shipboard equipment contracts.
Ships of 170701 design provide for the most advanced fishing and processing technologies. The vessel’s displacement is over 2,200 tonnes, length - 59 meters, width - 13 meters, endurance – 45 days, production capacity – 30 tonnes of fish per day.
The shipyard is currently building 4 ships of Project МТ1112XL for fishing companies: three ships for Fishing Company “Virma” and one for Globus LLC. Besides, the shipyard has signed an order for construction of 10 processing trawlers for Norebo. The hulls of two ships in the series, the Kapitan Sokolov and the Kapitan Geller are under construction.

The company was founded on November 14, 1912, as Putilovskaya Shipyard. Since then the shipbuilding company has built more than 600 warships and commercial vessels, including cruisers, destroyers, minesweepers, patrol vessels and submarines destroyers, research and passenger vessels, timber cargo carriers, trawlers, container ships and Ro-Ro vessels, tugboats and floating docks. The shipyard’s backlog of orders currently includes the series of frigates, corvettes and other vessels.
Group of Companies “Fishing Fleet of Karelia” is a successor of White Sea Base of state fishing established in 1951. Headquartered in Petrozavodsk, the Group comprises the following companies: Soglasiye LLC, Fishing Company “Virma” LLC, Seafish LLC, Fish Trade Network LLC, Arkhangelsk Trawl Fleet JSC. The Group’s companies are currently implementing a project on construction of a fish processing plant with daily capacity of more than 50 tonnes. The plant is to be put into operation in 2019.
