Rosatom has set a target of cargo traffic on the Northern Sea Route at 92.6 million tonnes by 2024, IAA PortNews correspondent cites Aleksey Likhachev, General Director of Rosatom Corporation as saying at the ‘Arctic: Territory of Dialogue’ forum being held in Saint-Petersburg.
According to him, liquefied natural gas is to account for 41 million tonnes per year.
Crude oil transportation is to make 17.1 million tonnes per year including 7.1 million tonnes from Novoportovskoye field and 5 million tonnes from Payakhskoye and Vankorskoye fields each.
Annual coal transportation is forecasted to make 23 million tonnes including 19 million tonnes from Lenberovkaya ground and 4 million tonnes from Syradasayskoye field.
Metal and other cargo is expected to reach 3.5 million tonnes including 1.5 million tonnes from Norilsk Nickel, 1 million tonnes under Northern Delivery programme and 1 million tonnes of transit.
Besides, the Northern Sea Route will transport 8 million tonnes of cargo to be supplied by the Northern Latitudinal Railway.
The Forum is a key platform for discussing current issues relating to the socioeconomic development of Arctic regions and for developing multi-level, multilateral mechanisms for joint discovery and effective exploitation of the Arctic’s rich natural resource potential.
