The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan delegation visits the Port of Gdansk

The meeting between the representatives of the Port of Gdansk Authority and the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan was held at the Port Master's Office at Port Polnocny. The Chinese side was represented by Tao Chengbo, Vice-President of the Board at the Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan, and heads of the HR, Strategy and Contract, and Science and Technology Departments: Wang Jiancheng, Pan Xizhong, Chen Jianliang, Wu Xudong, and Jiang Fengxiang, the Port of Gdansk reports.

During the visit, talks centred around further cooperation between the ports, as well as the development of new technologies and a common concept for personnel training and student and start-up exchange. Issues raised also included the flagship investment at Gdansk's port - the Central Port, and port management methods. The representatives of the Port of Ningbo invited the Port of Gdansk to take part in the fifth edition of the Maritime Silk Road Port International Cooperation Forum (MPF2019) in China.

"Cooperation with one of the largest container ports in the world is of huge significance to us. The number of transshipped containers keeps increasing every year. We want to expand the Port of Gdansk's handling capacity and ensure employee development. Strengthening cooperation with the Port of Ningbo is mutually beneficial. Thanks to the concept for personnel training and talent exchange among students we would be able not only to improve the level of education, but also to invest in our future employees," says Lukasz Greinke, President of the Port of Gdansk Authority.

The ports wish to establish regular cooperation in terms of staff exchange. Each of the ports would designate managers responsible for the organisation and employee exchange.

Enlarge"Thanks to such system, Polish and Chinese port employees may expand their knowledge and competence and learn about the specifics of the work. The way in which both ports function is different, which is why this kind of solution would help not only exchange experience, but also overcome barriers and recognise each other's needs," explains Slawomir Michalewski, Vice-President of Financial Affairs at the Port of Gdansk.

The Port of Ningbo-Zhoushan is the busiest port in the world. It handles more than 1 million tonnes of cargo annually, including 26 million TEU of containers, transported from North America, South America, and Oceania, among others. It is located by the East China Sea, in the Zhejiang Province, to the south of the Hangzhou Bay. The Port of Ningbo is situated in the most rapidly developing region in China in terms of economy and investments - in the Yangtze River Delta, called the Golden Triangle.

The Port of Gdansk has a regular connection with the Port of Ningbo. It is operated by two weekly container shipping services, Maersk Line and Ocean Alliance, the latter comprising: OOCL, Cosco, CMA CGM, and Evergreen. Transportation time between Gdansk and Ningbo is 33 days.
