Natural gas liquefaction facility (LNG plant) to be built in Poronaisk (Sakhalin)

Natural gas liquefaction facility (LNG plant) is to be built in Poronaisk (Sakhalin). According to the press center of Sakhalin Region Government, the agreement was signed in the framework of St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF 2019) by Valery Limarenko, head of the Sakhalin Region, and Aleksey Kakhidze, BoD Chairman, Gazprom LNG Technologies LLC.

The plant will serve as the basis for the development of new activities in the region: supply of power consumers with sources running on LNG, bunkering, LNG fuel stations.

Acting Governor explained that the joint project foresees the creation of a new industry on LNG transportation, equipment, engineering, servicing and maintenance of those facilities.

There is a plan to build two turns of the plant, 5 tonnes of LNG per hour each. The first one is to be built in 2021-2022. The term for construction of the second one will be clear after the assessment of the first turn’s performance.
