Freight volume handled at the Port of Klaipeda, Lithuania, in January-May 2018 grew by 8.5%, year-on-year, to 19.77 million tonnes, the Port Authority statistics said.
In the reporting period, transshipment of general cargo grew by 13.3% to 6.9 million tonnes, liquid bulk cargo – down 6.9% to 4.13 million tonnes, dry bulk cargo – 13.5% to 8.73 million tonnes.
State-run Port of Klaipeda, the northernmost ice-free port on the East coast of the Baltic Sea, is the largest Lithuanian transport hub, connecting sea and inland traffic lanes. There are 17 stevedore companies, shipyards and other operators at the port, providing a broad range of services. Throughput of Klaipeda port in 2017 totaled 43.17 million tonnes.
