Okskaya Sudoverf Shipyard selected for construction of a combination vessel to link the Komandorskie Islands, Kuril Islands and Kamchatka

Directorate of the State Customer of Maritime Transport Development Programs, following the results of an open e-tender will award a contract to Okskaya Sudoverf Shipyard (Shipyard OKA) based in Navashino, Nizhny Novgorod Region. The contract is for construction of a combination cargo/passenger vessel of Project NE-020.2 developed by naval architecture and marine engineering firm Nordic Engineering. The vessel will be built to ensure regular service between Komandorskie Islands, Severo-Kurilsk and Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the website of unified information system for procurement said.

After electronic qualification and tendering process the contract was awarded to Shipyard OKA at the proposed price of RUB 1,367,957,800. The shipbuilding project will be funded through the federal budget. Under the contract terms the construction completion is scheduled for December 15, 2021. The newbuild delivery will take place at a pier of the Port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

Under requirement specifications the vessel will be steel hulled  cargo/passenger vessel with bow cargo holds and cargo deck, with aft arrangement of engine room, tank and quarter deck, two main engines and fixed pitch propellers.

The vessel will be carrying passengers, as well as general, bulk cargo, containers, including reefer containers. Navigation area - unlimited, including non-Arctic seas in accordance with the vessel class, with outdoor temperature ranging + 30ºС, humidity 60% in summer to -20ºС (85%) in winter, and that of water + 25 ° С to 0 ° С, respectively.

The vessel was designed to sail in the following ice conditions: unescorted voyage is allowed in shallow thin ice of 0.55-meter-thick / 5 knots; follow an icebreaker in canal in solid 0.5-meter-thick ice / 3 knots. The ship will be built to RS class.

Okskaya Sudoverf Shipyard JSC is a modern shipbuilding enterprise and a subsidiary of VBTH division of UCL Holding specialising in the construction of oil tankers, medium-tonnage dry bulk carriers of mixed 'river-sea' sailing, containerships, special crafts and barges. In 2015, the Company was ranked second largest shipyard in Russia in terms of total tonnage of completed and delivered newbuildings.
