Container throughput at the seaports of Ukraine in January-July 2019 reached 545,800 TEUs, which is a 20% spike on the same period last year, the Ports of Ukraine reports citing statistics of Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority (USPA).
Handling of import containers rose 19.8% to 265 659 TEUs, export containers – by 18.7% to 259 232 TEUs and transit containers – by 42.2% to 20,912 TEUs.
Containers were handled in the following seaports: Odessa Sea Port (66% of the total container volume), Pivdenny Sea Port (21%), Chernomorsk Sea Port (12.9%), Olbia Specialized Sea Port (SSP) and Reni Sea Port (both less than 1%).
Odessa port container volume increased by 9.3% to 360,417 TEUs. Pivdenny port doubled its container throughput to 114,545 TEUs. Container traffic at the port of Chernomorsk rose 3.1% to 70,756 TEUs. SMP “Olvia” handled 83 TEUs against 289 TEUs a year earlier, the port of Reni - 2 TEUs.
USPA figures show that handling of containers in tonnes increased by 19.1% to 7.10 million tonnes, and by 19.7% in twenty-foot equivalent units, to 346,412 TEUs.
In 2018 the country’s seaports increased container handling as compared with 2017 figures by 18.7% to 846,485 TEUs.
