Following the open competition held in e-format, FSUE Rosmorport and Pella OJSC signed a state contract on construction of an 18 MW icebreaker of Icebreaker7 class, the state company says in a press release. A diesel-electric line icebreaker of Project 21900М2 will be built under the comprehensive plan for upgrading and expanding core infrastructure till 2024 for ensuring a year-round operation of freezing ports in the Far East Basin of Russia. The works under the contract estimated at RUB 7.540 billion will be financed by the federal budget. The ship is to be put into operation in 2024.
In 2012-2016, three modern diesel-electric line icebreaker of Project 21900М, Vladivostok, Murmansk and Novorossiysk, were built to the order of FSUE Rosmorport at Vyborg Shipyard. 18 MW icebreakers gave a good account of themselves when operated in a variety of conditions including those of the Arctic seas. The ships demonstrated high efficiency and reliability. Characteristics including icebreaking capacity demonstrated during field trials in ice conditions exceeded designed levels. The new icebreaker of Project 21900М2 is to be based on 21900М design and a detailed design developed by Vympel Design Bureau and financed by FSUE Rosmorport. The new design complies with the recent requirements of international conventions including those on reduction of hazardous emissions from ships. Ice class has been raised to Icebreaker7.
