Dredging at Utrenny terminal under Yamal LNG 2 project to be completed in October

In view of limited period of ice-free navigation in the Far North region, dredging season of 2019 is to be over in the second decade of October, Rosatom’s Northern Sea Route Directorate said at its on-site meeting chaired by Vyacheslav Ruksha, Deputy General Director of Rosatom. The meeting was attended by representatives of Rosatom, Hydrographic Company, NOVATEK, Arctic LNG 2, Mordraga and other organizations.

According to Rosatom’s NSR Directorate, the period of ice-free navigation at the site lasts 60-70 calendar days per year. To implement the programme on delivery of construction cargo in 2020, the scope of dredging works in the water area and at the access canal should total 5.4 million cbm this year. 4.7 million cbm of bottom soil has been dredged as of 4 October 2019.

The dredging works performed in 2019 will let deliver cargo for construction of the Utrenny terminal for liquefied natural gas and stable gas condensate in Sabetta seaport so that it could be launched by the end of 2022.

Total scope of dredging needed to reach the designed parameters of the water area and the access canal is to exceed 26 million cbm.

In 2019, the fleet involved in dredging operations consisted of 8 units including a suction-cutter dredger, trailing suction hopper dredgers, self-propelled hopper barge and support vessels.

Rosatom Corporation is the state customer of the Utrenny terminal construction project with FSI Hydrographic Company defined as the developer of the terminal construction.

Hydrographic Company provides navigation and hydrographic support in the water area of the Northern Sea Route .

Mordraga LLC is the only contractor of dredging works in 2019 for the Utrenny terminal.

The Utrenny terminal construction in Sabetta is among the tasks under the federal project 'Northern Sea Route’ aimed at expansion of the Northern Sea Route cargo flow to 80 million tonnes per year by 2024 in pursuance of RF President’s Decree dated 7 May 2018 No 204 “On national objectives and strategic tasks of the Russian Federation development till 2024”.

NOVATEK’s Arctic LNG 2 project envisages constructing three LNG trains at 6.6 million tons per annum each, using gravity-based structure (GBS) platforms. The Project is based on the hydrocarbon resources of the Utrenneye field. The field with proved reserves of about 1.98 trillion cbm of natural gas and 105 million tonnes of liquid hydrocarbons is to become a resource base of Arctic LNG 2 project. OOO Arctic LNG 2 owns an LNG export license.

The problems and prospects of dredging in Russia are to be discussed at the Third International Congress ‘Hydraulic Engineering Structures and Dredging’ organized by PortNews Media Group. Read more on the Events page >>>>
