About 2,400 scrubbers installed on ships worldwide will consume some 600,000 barrels of heavy fuel per day in 2020, IAA PortNews correspondent cites John-Laurent Tronche, Market Engagement Manager, Europe and Africa, S&P Global Platts, as saying at the Oil Terminal 2019 conference in Saint-Petersburg.
According to him, heavy fuel will become cheaper when new IMO restrictions come into force. That will contribute to the increase of the demand for this fuel from generating facilities in Pakistan and Bangladesh. However, this demand can prove to be just a temporary one amid the plans to develop generation facilities operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and coal.
When speaking at the conference, Kostantsa Rangelova, energy analyst for CIS and Russia at JBC Energy, forecast the HSFO price to fall to its lowest in April 2020 which is to be followed by a gradual growth.
