Moscow Basin IWW carried 1.4 million people and 26 million tonnes of cargo in navigation season of 2019

Between April and November 2019, inland water ways of the Moscow Basin carried about 1.4 million people and 26 million tonnes of cargo, says press center of FSBI Moscow Canal.

The demand for river voyages continued growing in the country: passenger flow grew by 3.8% to over 1.38 million people. All passenger ships made about 19,000 voyages. 89 cruise liners operating on the Moscow canal carried more than 280,000 people.

However, cargo traffic on inland water ways of Central Russia fell by 8.9% to 26 million tonnes.

According to the statement, the operation was hindered by low water level on the Oka river and by repair works between the locks No 7 and No 8 after a technogenic incident in January 2019.

Upon completion of the navigation season, hydraulic engineering structures and ships of Moscow Canal will undergo internavigation maintenance.

State-owned FSUE Moscow Canal is the largest water transport and inland shipping sector facility and acts as a public administration body for management of inland waterways in 12 regions of Central Russia. The authority manages and operates 235 hydraulic engineering facilities and 3,842 km of inland waterways.
